- Composition
E7018 welding rods have a chemical composition of 0.15% maximum carbon, 1.60% maximum manganese, 0.75% maximum silicon, 0.035% maximum phosphorus, 0.30% maximum nickel, 0.20% maximum chromium, 0.30% maximum molybdenum, and 0.08% maximum vanadium. - Tensile strength
E7018 electrodes have a minimum tensile strength of 70,000 pounds per square inch. - Current ranges
3.2 mm E7018 welding rods have current ranges of 90–140 amps, depending on the material’s thickness and position. - Usage
E7018 welding rods are recommended for welding medium grade carbon steels that don’t require preheat, and cold rolled steels that are porous when welded with conventional electrodes. They can also be used in joints involving high-strength, high carbon, or low alloy steels. - Features
E7018 electrodes are low hydrogen stick electrodes that are easy to remove moderately heavy slag. They can operate with either an AC or a DC current. - Other information
The “70” in E7018’s name means the electrode has a tensile strength of 70,000 PSI. The “1” in the third-digit slot means the welding consumable has a smooth arc and a clear puddle in nearly all positions.
